Lohr McKinstry of the Press Republican summarizes the Essex County races to be decided on Tuesday:
ESSEX COUNTY
Countywide primaries are scheduled for district attorney and sheriff.
Minerva, Ticonderoga, Westport and Willsboro have Republican supervisor races on the ballot for this year's primary.
In addition, town-council contests are scheduled in Minerva, Moriah, Ticonderoga, North Hudson and Schroon.
Crown Point, Elizabethtown, Newcomb and North Hudson have highway-superintendent races.
District attorney: District Attorney Julie Garcia (R-D) will face challenger Kristy Sprague (R) in the countywide Republican primary.
Garcia, a Westport resident, has held the office for four years, and her challenger also ran against her in 2005. Sprague is a Moriah native who is taking a leave of absence from her job as a Clinton County assistant district attorney and just moved from Plattsburgh to Willsboro.
Sheriff: Incumbent Henry Hommes (R-C) is running against Michael "Ike" Tyler (R) in the countywide Republican primary. Hommes is a retired state trooper, while Tyler is a state correction officer.
